RESOURCES
Both California and federal law prohibit discrimination against people with disabilities. This link is a collection of resources for people with disabilities–including guides to state and federal laws, complaint processes, local government resources, and community advocacy organizations–to help people with disabilities understand the law and their rights.
Here you can find resources on Independent Living. In collaboration with the State Network of Independent Living Centers (ILCs) and the State Designated Entity (California Department of Rehabilitation), the SILC prepares a State Plan for Independent Living which sets the policy and funding levels for the state’s network of ILCs and services. To help guide this policy, the SILC solicits continual public feedback on the effectiveness of independent living services and the changing needs of the community.
The California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) works in partnership with consumers and other stakeholders to provide services and advocacy resulting in employment, independent living, and equality for individuals with disabilities.
The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) works to ensure Californians with developmental disabilities have the opportunity to make choices and lead independent, productive lives as members of their communities in the least restrictive setting possible.
A wide variety of services are available to Californians with developmental disabilities in each stage of their lives. Services are person-centered and designed to meet a variety of unique needs and reflect the choices of individuals within their communities.
